Converting a Rossi 357 to 30 badger ?

Just sitting here at home like everyone else reading and letting my mind wonder . Was reading about the model 92 in 32-20 and since there not really making new ones an alternative would be the 30 badger thought up by our own Badger Ed a member here on castboolits for those who don't know what it is . It's a 38 spl necked to 30 cal in a simple single pass in a 30 tokerov sizer die . Seems like it would only take a new barrel and chamber cut . And since bottle necked ctgs. Seem to feed rather well it should trouble free.
Anyone do this already ?

There is a fellow in AZ that has converted several Rossi 92s to 256Win (357mag necked to 25cal). I'm sure he could do this. His business name is "C lazy F Company" at 602 315 2406.
I am going to convert a Win 92 to 256Win when I get the time.

That sounds like a great idea to me. What a neat little carbine that would be! Perhaps relining instead of rebarreling?

Why not go with the 30-357? Easy to load down to 32-20 power if that's what your after, but with the 38 spc case, your power would be limited.

And there's the 360 Dan Wesson case too, to make an even more powerful version, or make a long neck version of the magnum.

One real world advantage to either 30-357 or 256Win is the availability of brass. 32WCF (32-20) isn't a problem at this time but 25WCF (25-20) is and has been for a few years. I don't see the 357 Magnum or it's "father" going away any time soon.

And the reformed 357 brass is a lot stronger than the flimsy 32-20 brass. I have a buckeye ruger and it's not unusual to loose 1 or 2 cases every time I load a hundred of those empty cases. I have some WW and some starline. And while the starline are a little stronger, the reformed 357s are a LOT stronger and I rarely loose one of them unless it's a split neck because I have not anneled them lately.

Well when I was thinking this over I my mind the reason for the 30 badger on 38 spl cases would be the ability to use longer heavier bullets and still not exceed the max oal that would function i.e. I could load a 150 gr 30 cal in the shorter brass if I would so choose to do so . It's been a long while since I had a puma and don't know what max oal is . But that was the main reason simple versatility no so much power levels

Dies for the 30 Badger would be easier/cheaper than the 30/357.

It is a real shame that the 30 badger did not come out much sooner and gain more acceptance.

The easy of converting brass, the reloading die availability and the never ending supply of cheap/free 38 Sp cases combine to make the brass situation just so much better than any other small 30 cal.

Although small, the round has more than enough power for a fun gun in most platforms (guns that allows loading to 357 mag or higher pressures).

Frequently gun conversions can be done at low cost using old 30 cal rifle barrels.

If you are willing to go with a "no factory ammo" round, I see no reason that a 357 lever gun conversion would be anything but a joy to own and shoot.

You would need to stick with flat nose boolits or other bullets designed for tubular magazines. Given all the 30-30s out there, good bullet and mold choices are easy to find.

I'm going with the 256 Win for several reasons. 1 I have the reamer, 2 I have a barrel, 3 brass is easy to get 4 it shoots flatter than 30 cals of the same case capacity 5 I already have a 25/20 and three molds for the 25 cal.

rbuck, I like the idea of the 256WM and I think it would make a great little lever gun.

Reline with a TJ liner and a shim on the right cartridge guide - that's all is needed for the conversion
