    New Butter Tub marking

Emptied a margarine tub recently and noticed that there was no recycle number on it. It had a recycle icon with "Plastic Tub". Has anyone tried using one of these? Is it an acceptable replacement for a number 5?

I'm suspecting that it means they use one of several plastics, depending on which is cheapest to them, and they just use recyclable plastics for it. The dies used to make tubs are NOT cheap, to make 3-4 different sets would be expensive, this way "one injection die set fits all"

Thanks. That seems a reasonable answer and also means we will either need to hang on to number 5 tubs still out there or try out every new tub with the indiscriminate marking to see if it works for us.

#5 isn't the only # that works, It's just the most common #.

Try it and let us know

I use pickle tubs from Aldi's. The top snaps on TIGHT. Best tub I have found yet. The top is the one that you can never find the slot cutout to use to pop the top off. And they are fairly thick so not risk of the top coming off like the butter tubs.

I have found that a lot of take-out containers for restaurants are a black plastic with a clear lid. Works way better for me that the Cool Whip tub. In part because the clear lid lets me see when to stop shaking.
