Rifling grooves don't seem to be very deep, not sure if that's good or bad.

basically what mine look like. but as mentioned I cant really tell out your rifling grooves but I don't know if its the bullets fault or just camera focus or something like that. but I don't see signs of being undersized or undercooked so seems all good

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and guess you didn't pick that color.

    OK.

Other than that, it looks good if the barrel rifling is on the shallow side-- which a lot of pistols are.
I looked down into a older Colt 1911 barrel and thought it was worn out the lands were so faint.
But its normal for them, and a new one looked the same.

Most light-colored PC in my experience aren't as good as dark ones, but hey, pink is the new red?

I'm wondering if your boolit couldn't be a little bigger. the rifling grooves don't look "clean" (a little sloppy, no clean lines) to me. the PC stayed on the body great, I almost expect a little more PC showing up in the grooves. The TL hardly looks touched by the rifling but all the pc in missing where the rifling was.

    http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...Coated-Samples

did you do a smash test to see how the PC sticks to your boolit? (pound the boolit into a fat penny or cube, none of the PC should come off
Was the boolit clean when you PC'd it?
did you check the oven with a thermometer set on the shelf you are baking on to see if it was actually reaching and staying at 400°? (most countertop ovens are off by up to 75°

the real test is --- is your barrel clean?

Since you asked, I think your coating is not thick enough; possibly undercured as I see too much lead exposed. It hopefully will provide enough lubrication with the gun you are using and not lead. The average depth of land to groove rifling in a rifle and many handguns is .004". To get the best performance the polymer jacket build out should be approximately .003". This is not my opinion, this statement came from a Phd professor of polymer physics who spent a lifetime in the profession.

When one thinks about it that makes perfect sense, since we want the alloy core of the bullet protected and the polymer jacket to do what a copper or other jacket material does. It is the jacket that you want to ride the rifling. The difference between velocity limited copper plating and a copper jacket is the thickness of the copper jacket.

The problem with a some of the Red/Pink Colors and almost all Yellow's is less pigment, so they do not coat as well as blacks, blues and greens. I would suggest using another color or double coat or preheat to get a thicker coating. There is a post "Toughness of PC’d bullets" you might want to look at and I think you will immediately see the difference in what a good coverage looks like. For the most part you are there just a little fine tuning.

I wouldn't get too excited about specific thickness unless you are trying to deliberately make a bullet fatter. If it does the job- prevents leading and has good accuracy, it's just fine. RE: colors- I find that mixing 2 or more colors, using Smokes powder, gives better coverage.

I saw that. I think the pink may need a double coat. I used some of smokes Carolina blue and it is much thicker than the pink using the S&B method. I have a thermometer on order and will use it when it shows up, just to monitor internal temps. I also extended my curing time to 30 minutes total. with a 10 minute pre heated oven and a 30 minute heating time I should have a good amount of 400 degree surface temp.
