Winchester Primers

I have found some WLR primers for a good price , but I have never used any . Does anyone have any experience and how are they compared to Fed. primers .

Never had one not go bang. My go to standard LR primer for years. Only negative I ever found was they seem a smidgen smaller in diameter compared to cci and seated very easily in cases that have been reloaded many times or loaded on the warm side. Never had one back out or pierce, but I typically switch these old cases to cci.

Buy with confidence! Many sub MOA groups and many deer. No worries with the WLR primers.

I have a ton of them in my inventory.....use them more than most others I have. Very consistent for me in rifle and pistol. I'd say go forth with confidence!

I like 'em.
I buy CCI or Win. both depending on which one the local gun store has in stock.

In years past, I've used Federal primers.
They all worked, but I wasn't comfortable with how loose their LR and LP ones went in and fit compared to Win, or CCI.

I use them for pistols but nothing else.rifles get federal match.

CCI is my #1, Winchester is my #2. Been working my way through a thousand Win Large Rifle for the past 4 years, not a single issue yet.

They are slightly hotter as they are formulated to ignite Winchester ball powders. They work fine with extruded powders but a better choice if you use ball powders.

I normal use them, very seldom use some thing different depends on what the store have but would normal get Win.

I've used wlr exclusively but recently had trouble with 2 batches. Even with moderate loads in 30.06 and 7 30 waters I was getting blown primers, with a little hole at the edge. A little googling found a list of lot numbers numerous people have found had this problem.
I guess Winchester is aware of the issue and is giving refunds. I'll try using these lots for blackpowder only, if they fail again, I'll trash them.

I've used Winchester for a very long time and never had a problem including thousands of rounds loaded for a Garand .

I began using Federal primers 50 years ago because that was all the local discount store (Gibson's) stocked. They were excellent primers too.

Time goes by and we have some hoarding shortages caused by Clinton and Obama.
When the shortage occurred Federal primers are the first to disappear and the last to reappear on the market. During the Clinton shortage I bought a brick of WW large rifle primers and shot them up. They were excellent. I also bought Remington large rifle primers and they were also excellent. So now I tend to ignore Federal primers unless they are plentiful at normal prices. Otherwise I can usually get a better deal on some other equally good brand.

Winchesters are my standard. Not as soft as Federals, I keep some Federals around for a couple rifles that have light firing pin strikes.

I'll add that I continue to use them. I figure a few problems out of billions made is no big deal. I think I bought the bad ones at a gun show from a guy who knew he had the bad lot numbers, as it was during the shortage and he sold them at pre-shortage prices.

Used them for years without problems, until they switched to non-nickel plating in the early 2,000's. Then about 1 in 100 needed 2 hits to go off. The next 5,000 and everyone since has worked just Great.
