This didn't sound right to me...

I was told by a friend that he had bought a used Dillion progressive outfit and he had problems seating bullets because cases would have 2 or 3 thousands of an inch in length variation. He went on to say that one bullet just fell out of the case spilling powder so he didn't use the press any more. Sounded like to me he just wasn't seating them deep enough but OAL should have been to long to chamber if a bullet fell out.
    Any thoughts on his problem.

No polite way to state this so here goes. He doesn't know what he is doing or what he is talking about.

Ask him what the max and minimum case length specifications for the case he is reloading are. Then point out the fact that cases inside that tolerance vary by more than .002-.003.

If you can't con him out of the Dillon--- teach him how to adjust dies.

Those darn Dillon products!! I would be willing to take that defective piece of junk off of his hands - for proper disposal of course.

Even the statuary here is unimpressed with your friend's faux passé. Seating the bullet deep enough? Come On Man! Try SIZING the cases first...

If it was easy, anybody could do it.

I've met this guy several times before, he always has a different face and knows more then those around him. He is unwilling to take advice and when he does, it usually turns out to become something that was his own revelation from the beginning.

Buy him a new Lee in exchange for his "defective" Dillon. After all he is your friend.

But I would help him out....it is the right thing to do.

    BUT NEVER SHOOT HIS RELOADS.....EVER!!!

Not a lot you can do to change an attitude like that and even less of a chance to teach an individual like that.

Since he already knows what's wrong, maybe he will give you a good deal on it.
Tell him you would like to play with it for a while. He just might say take the durn thing
    it doesn't work anyway!

While offering him a Lee press in trade for his Dillon is a nice thing to do, it would give him something to use and thus risk blowups at the range due to his clearly poor reloading practices. Better to make him an offer on it, so you're not getting it for nothing, and try to leave him press-less so he doesn't injure himself or others. Offer him the equivalent $$ for a Lee setup and call it good. Use the old "maybe I can fix it, and if not I'll deal with the warranty folks, you know how defensive they are" line and make his home safer...

Just tell him that reloading is not a reliable process.
Just give all that junk to you.
Rifles are also unreliable. You have to buy a new one each hunting season.
