Sixgun Cartridges & Loads by Elmer Keith

If anyone is interested in obtaining a copy of this 1936 classic , Silver Rock Publishing reprinted it in 2016 and copies are available from Amazon , hardbound $17.61 and softbound $11.61 . The chapters on boolit casting , alloy and boolit sizing are worth the price of the book alone . Loading data (powder and powder charges) are dated but everything else is still quite relevant . He also covers a lot of semi-auto loading .
    Good photo's too .
I got a copy to go along with my book "Sixguns" but after I started reading it discovered a lot of useful info on boolit casting . A good read and The price is reasonable !

It also looks like Amazon has the 1961 edition of "Sixguns" , hardcover for $24.95...
I paid more than that for "Sixguns" in 1968...man that's a good price !

I ordered the sixgun cartridges and loads about a week ago from amazon. I am almost through it for the first time. I got a reprint of sixguns a few months ago. I highly recommend both. Thank you for letting everyone know! Sixgun cartridges and loads is a must read for anyone that likes reloading.
Due to the price of primers, warning shots will no longer be given!

I also ordered Sixguns Cartridges and Loads from Amazon. It was delivered last weekend. I mostly wanted it for a reading copy. I have an original copy but it is old and somewhat fragile and I didn't want to damage it by turning pages over and over. Sad to say it has been sitting on a shelf for several years.

I'm enjoying the softbound copy. I'm just into Elmer's description of handgun cartridges. Funny how he describes some of them the same as some writers describe them today. Did they copy??

Are there any publishers to avoid on these reprints? I’ve seen some where the pictures are pretty fuzzy.

I don't know about other publishers but I ordered this one and the pictures are as good as in my original copy.

Silver Rock Publishing has done a good job with this reprint . I examined every drawing & photograph in this one and they all appear sharp ...considering the originals were taken before 1936 , printed and published in 1936 , with the equipment of that era...I think they look great. Elmer wasn't known for his photography skills but for 1936 they look good and the reprinting is fine . Well worth the price .
I am glad so many found this book interesting , this section is sorta new to me and might be my first post here. I am surprised by the amount of interest it has generated !
    Glad you boy's liked it,

    Those are great collectibles .
    Autographed 1st Edition...that's just Awesome !
Pick up a cheap copy of the reprints for actual handling and reading .
My " Sixguns" has copyright dates of 1941 and 1955 , so must be second edition at least , it's getting rather shop worn and I'm getting leery of opening and closing the pages too much ... I think I'll order one of the $24.95 reprints for reading and let the old one rest .

That is an excellent idea. I've got two copies also and would like to pass them on to my sons. If it looks like they are not interested, I know friends that would like one. I have already given away one recent copy to a friend.

Didn't the NRA re-publish that book along with another by Keith in the same binding in that collection they put out, the ones that were leather bound and gold leaf printed on the cover? Now I'm wondering and will have to look. I believe I have it.

Edit: Yes they did. Sixgun Cartridges & Loads and Big Game Rifles in 1998 for their Firearms Classic Library with a forward/editors note by Jim Casada. It appears to be an exact re-print. It has some cool old pictures of Elmer and game animals.

Vis Amazon, I ordered as copy of both books on 20 February 2020 -- the day after initial post by gwpercle. I received an email from Amazon today advising the the Keith book will be delivered tomorrow... a bit of a wait -- and I look forward to receiving it (finally).
