As I understand it, the gen 5 barrels are land and groove rifled and not polygonal, as the earlier generations. Some say they shoot lead boolits better because of it. I am wondering if others agree.
I don't see it. but I don't have a Gen 5, all mine are 3rd Gen and have shot countless lead boolits. At the ranges you would shoot guns like this IE: "Conversational Distances" 3-25 yards maybe out to 50. Minor differences in accuracy are negligible.

Did a side by side with a gen3 and gen5 17 and I can't tell a difference. Its definitely not standard lands and grooves. More like polygonal with traditional grooves, if that makes sense.
blue32's description is spot on. The Gen 5 rifling looks like traditional grooves with polygonal lands. It is difficult to describe but the grooves have well defined edges but the tops of the lands are slightly rounded.
