    Ruger mki target

I have a mki target and it shoots good. Except the trigger pull is around 4 1/2 pounds. That's not bad but would like to get it closer to 2 #, 2 1/2#. Been thinking about putting a a kit in to achieve that but wondering what is best. Thinking about a volquartsen but just wondering if therecare other opinions. Thanks!

Do the trigger job yourself. They are not hard to do. Shorten the sticky out part of the sear and polish the bottom that rides on the sear release lever. Also polish the top of the sear lever. Do not change the angle of either. You can also install a trigger stop by drilling and tapping a hole in the trigger and installing a screw with a jam nut on the back side of the trigger. I have three of the MKI Ts. One short bull barrel and two 6 1/2" heavy barrel. I have done several of these even one original short barrel MKI that shot very well when finished. I'm not familiar with the after market triggers so can't comment on those.

Other than the assembly disassembly to test check the trigger as you go, job isnt hard to do and a few fine stones and light oil will do a fine job. I did my 8" mark 2 worked down with stones close setting length of pull / break and weight. The a small brass flat bar with diamond dust t finish polish and smooth. pull is right around 1 3/4 lbs and .010 to break. Has never doubled or misfired. But its not a beginners trigger either. I would recommend 1 st fire at east 500-600 rounds before to show and get the bearing pattern to see. 2nd Leave it a little heavy as with use it will lighten around 1/4- 1/2 lb as parts wear in naturally. This is a better fit and finish than we can achieve by hand

I installed the Volquartsen trigger on my heavy taper 5 1/4" MK1. The directions were easy to follow & I'm very happy with the results.

22LR ammo is dirty, the best thing I did with my Mk II was install a trigger shield.

You can replace just the hammer and sear with Volquartsen parts and achieve a very good trigger pull at about 1/2 the cost of a full kit. If you can find one of the old Clark steel triggers, they are top notch and I think they feel better than the newer triggers made for the Ruger .22 pistols.

The sear is the heart of the Volquartsen kit. Just replacing the sear can make a huge difference.

True, but if you do the sear and the hammer together, it's really sweet.

There are some other little tricks to tune up a Ruger Standard or MKII pistol.
They really are under-rated guns. They are capable of far better work than their low cost leads some to believe.
