Just imagine it as a o'possum without the shell, that'll work for ya.

Do you understand what a gut shot is? Just don't gut shoot them.

Back in the early 70’s I heard the Florida agricultural commissioner on the radio decrying them as a rapidly growing plague in that state. He urged listeners to reduce their population whenever possible and further claimed they were quite tasty when properly prepared.

Old boy from Missouri I knew would gut shoot them with the hi standard 22 he was always carrying so "The damn things bury themselves".

I was always glad he didn't dislike me.

Didn’t read through the entire thread but they can be killed with a head shot with a decent pellet rifle on up.

They can carry leprosy (Hansen’s disease) so don’t handle with bare hands .

Last one I shot was with a 7mm STW with a 120gr Nosler BT That had unknown velocity but that thing literally exploded with parts falling from the sky for what seemed like minutes.

Shoot 'em in the middle and they do bury themselves as they're never too far away from their hole. A .22 works nicely every time.

If they happen to bury themselves near or under your house, shed or barn you are going to be sorry.

As someone who grew up in Texas, it’s fun to read the experiences of others. As a Boy Scout I had plenty of exposure to live armadillos. When camping you can hear them tearing roots out of the ground at night.

Not nice, especially if the hole is under the house foundation- behind the climbing roses......

can they be killed ? YES absolutely, but... only with a belted magnum in the asperlyaimless class and caliber and I might add it must be with a cast bullet hard as possible (think titanium or maybe unobtanium) which shall be powder coated both electrostaticly and tumbled in only the very best quality PC, and lubed with a high quality lube (grooves can be purchased on this very forum) for best results. This info has been quoted from a yet to be authored " How to kill an Armadillo" handbook for post Apocalyptic homeowners.

I use the 375 H&H and I've never had a runoff. It does seem most around here use something by Ford, Dodge, or GMC, as they can be rather damaging to the lightweight versions.

I have been told that these critters indeed can have the virus that causes leprosy. They have become a nuisance here in S.C. I usually carry a .357 while on the farm. It works wonders on them.

Would a 30-06 be sufficient? Or would I need something bigger to shoot through the armor plate?

I've killed them with everything from my 30cal air rifle to a Grizzly 1911 45 Win Mag the 45WM was a bit over kill but it's what I had with me at the time generally when you shoot them they bounce straight up in the air about 2 feet and die.

If pigs were as deaf and poor sighted as armadillos the world would be a much better place- in my opinion.

Yep. Wrapped in aluminum foil under the camp fire, chicken fried.
Get the shell started to come loose at the shoulders, put a boot toe on each side of the shell, pull up on the head and trim out with your knife.

Be sure and go for a head shot if you're gonna eat them.

Like Sid Vicious in the movie "Free Johnny Dangerously".

You might consider an 88Magnum with a loudener.
    They can shoot through schools.

Most of the tanks are gone and the windows don't rattle anymore. I won't be able to sleep now.
