Using same bullet as you, I load IMR3031 to 25 grains; have done this load for years; and, probably will not ever try to "improve" upon it. My .30-30 is a Marlin 336 "beater"... A good read on this bullet is at https://www.artfulbullet.com/index.p...-strange.3850/ and here's one of my cartridge case labels:Click image for larger version.

I have in my very old notes that w748 was the powder that the factories used for their loadings. I still have some from when I first loaded for the 30/30 marlin bought in '57. I have changed to 3031 and have been happy with that.

Winchester probably did use 748 for factory 30-30 but Remington probably used Dupont IMR- probably 3031.

I see all the reply’s of different powders to use in place of 3031 & no one mentioned benchmark, in my loading & loading books it is ALMOST interchangeable with 3031. They are listed right next to each other on the burn rate chart also. In my area it is more available also.

Thanks, Yooper. I have a couple lbs of Benchmark- I'll give it a try next batch.

    I'm using 27.0gr and a CCI-200 with the Lee 170 FP powdercoated. 1950fps and 1 1/2" groups from a Savage 24F 24" barrel.

    Good luck and have fun!
