    4 Cavity Lyman Rifle Moulds?

A buddy of mine bought some Moulds recently.
When he was digging through he realized that a bunch were 4 cavity rifle moulds.
I have never seen a 4 cavity rifle mould before.
So I figured the mould addicts here might have some input or at the least would like to see some pics of some nice Moulds. Some of which are brand new.
    Thanks for looking!

Thats a nice collection of molds. I have a couple of 4 cavity molds from the late 60's or early 70's so they have been around for a while. I like 4 cavity molds. They seem to be a good compromise between the effort required and production.

Been using 4 cavity Lyman rifle molds since 1968. My first was a Lyman 457124. Only own a couple of single or double cavity molds. Have a bunch of 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10's.

    I aquired one a while back . I think I ran it once to check design . Getting over heated wasn't problem but it's barely a problem in a 25 cal single let alone a 4C . 257134 .

That would be cool. Nice find for your friend. Hard, if not impossible, to find a 4 cav rifle mold.

I see 5 Lyman 4 cavity rifle molds in your picture.
    Your friend is very lucky

I recall in the early 1970's when Lyman stop standard production of the 4 cavity rifle molds
So they were made roughly from 1959 to 1974, I have seen a few later ones that were special ordered but by 1980 it was over for the rifle 4 cavity molds.

I have currently 53 Lyman 4 cavity molds of which 11 are rifle molds

The only one I have to go slow with and it will still get HOT is the 462560, which is a 550 gr for the 458 Win Mag, what a beast.

    Hope your friend enjoys them.

Thanks for all the info guys!
I figured they were kind of rare. I’ve only been casting for about 10 years. He has 40 more years experience than I do and he doesn’t recall seeing many at all.

At center-left appears to be a No.457125, 500-grain for the 45-70. I was gifted such a 4-cavity when I got my first Trapdoor Springfield rifle some 35 years ago. You can quite literally watch the lead level in the pot visibly and rapidly drop as you fill those cavernous cavities, but my 1884 Springfield loves those big punkins!
