IS it still possible to get a new John Ross PC 500

I know John Ross had a few left a couple years ago. I don't know how to get ahold of him to ask if he still has any my guess is that ship has sailed. I have a 8 3/8" and love it I would like to have one with a shorter barrel and have always liked the look of the JR version. No muzzle brake would keep the blast down. knowing my luck if there are any left they are probably going for a fortune anyway. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes I am sure he still has some on hand. However, John has been busy writing his book and has not been here since late december.

I would contact him via facebook.
But after what happened last year, I got a feeling if he has any stock left, I doubt he is seeking any sales.
Last sept, I seen the serial #00001 sell at auction for over 4 grand with a 18.5% buyers premium.

I think he is referring to the sale of the first gun at auction for 300+% the price they were sold for. I doubt that anybody would pay that much for any other serial number, exception may be number 00500, which JR may keep for himself.

I have read recently of someone that went through the wringer trying to get one. Based on that, I wouldn't bother.

I am not sure what you are referring to when you say that someone "went through the wringer" trying to buy one of my 500s.

The only possible case you could be talking about was a fellow in Montana who sent money and an FFL, but when I did not ship the gun immediately, he ended up contacting his local police department and the Missouri Attorney General to lodge formal complaints against me. He had carefully documented all of his correspondence to me, had a bank photocopy of the check I had cashed, and provided these things to the law enforcement agencies.

What he had NOT done was include copies of either the FFL or the emails that I had sent HIM, which pointed out that the FFL he had provided had expired several months before he had sent it to me, and to please get me a current one, either a physical copy or a scanned one sent by email. I explained in my emails that I would be committing a felony if I shipped a gun to his dealer without having a current copy of their license in hand, and I wasn't going to do that.

I wrote back to the police department and the Missouri Attorney General, explaining these facts, enclosing a copy of the long-expired license, and a photocopy of a check that I sent to him, refunding his money with a 20% annualized interest rate added for the days that I had the funds.

In the letters that I sent to these two law enforcement entities, I reminded them of the old adage "never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence," but explained that I could not shake the fact that this situation was more and more looking like either the customer or his alleged dealer had run afoul of the ATF, and been recruited by that agency to lure me into a "sting" operation where they could nail me for a felony. I freely admitted that I had been critical of the ATF in the past, I wasn't about to play along with that game, and I was NEVER going to do business in the future with the Montana licensee in question, current FFL copy or not.

The guy cashed my check, and I sent bank photocopies to the authorities. This immediately closed the case to the satisfaction of both enforcement agencies, and I never heard from the guy or his dealer again.

Bill P. go for it. I have two JR .500's and not regretted it. Load up a 450 grain bullet at just 1000 f.p.s. and you have an all day carry and all day shooting sidearm with half again as much punch as a full load .44 Magnum, and I love my .44's.

Bill P, I second the "go for it !". A great .500 ! To me, the 5" is the perfect length.
Along with the gun, John sent a history of the 500, his history with the 500, load data.
Really a stand up guy !
One of my favorite things for other pistol shooters new to the 500 is to give them a "progressive" cylinder.
First shot is 44 mag ish, 2,3,4 up the ante in stages; #5 is full tilt 500 crazy max load, one of Johns 500 + g bullets at max velocity.
I have had newbies handle #5; some experienced 44 mag shooters have stopped at #3 or 4 - you just have to understand your limitations.
And yes, I have actually stopped someone at #3, he wasn't locking his wrist and would have eaten the front sight at #4 or 5.
Respect the gun with healthy loads and you will never have more fun with your clothes on !
    Cogno, Ergo, Boom

If you're gonna be stupid, don't pull up short. Saddle up and ride it all the way in.

Always another side of a story. Glad to hear it.
