I've had several of those over the years and found them to be very good shooters if the bores weren't too bad. I've still got 3 of them myself. I converted one to 35 Remington by rebarreling, one is a shooter mostly for corrosive milsurp ammo as the barrel was already frosted. The other is one of my favorites as I turned it into a nice "scout" type rifle. It will shoot moa with Hornady 150 gr SPs and shoots cast darn near as well. I have a 3X Redfield Pistol scope mounted in a Leupold base I modified to fit the rear sight base. I modified the front sight base to take an M14 front sight and put a Lyman SME receiver sight on the action. I also had the bold handle forged and installed a recoil pad.

The Argentine '91s make excellent cast bullet shooters. Mine really likes the 314299 and the C312-185 cast bullets.

If you find one and have your action D&T'd for it make sure the gunsmith lines up the rear of the sight base with the rear of the rear receiver ring. That way a stripper clip will still fit into the stripper clip guide for loading. Unfortunately, many if not most all gunsmiths just center the base on the rear receiver ring with out any thought to stripper clip loading.....

Larry, How does that sight work with a scope on it?
Seems like the scope will block the peep sight?

444ttd that is a nice sporter 1891 Argentine mauser you got there, DWM manufactured? I still have two Lowe Berlin and sold one DWM, all 3 are shooters and the pictured sporter Lowe has shot several sub MOA 300 yd 5 shot groups with CAST. The one in original condition is in excellent condition, stock finish and bluing are original, no import marks but crest was ground. Serial number shows 1892 manufacture so FIRST year production and I don't think it had been fired when I got it.

mine says DWM and the serial # U 60XX, which i can not find the date. i have been searching for it all day, but all i can find is Argentine Mauser Rifles, 1871-1959 By Colin Webster and no way i'm paying $70-80 for the date. jesh, add $30 is what i paid for the rifle. the bore is 90-95% good(from what i can tell, not from a qualified gunsmith). i think, from what i've learned, that Sears picked up the rifle and sold it. the guy(s) who had it before me, did a fine job cleaning it. the first thing i had done was to strip the bore clean. i'm talking bare metal clean. i used gunslicks foaming bore cleaner 4 times and waalaa, its a stripped bore. some g96 oil does the rest.

mine shows no import marks and the crest was ground too. the stock is sporterized but in great condition.

Being it's DWM it's 1896 or later manufacture. I'll see if I have the manufacture dates saved and post.

    Per Webster's book....

Your rifle sn U60xx was mfg in 1900. One of 16,000 mfg by DWM that year.
Serial numbers ranged T8000 to V3999.

For those who've never had experience with these rifles they are SUPERIOR cast bullet shooters.

My m/1891 rifle is C0231 mfg 1892 by Ludwig Loewe.

The scope is the primary sight, the receiver sight the secondary/backup. If the scope goes down it is removed by unscrewing on of the rear windage scews and then twisting the scope off. Easily and quickly done. The scope base is not in the way.

Dutchman: that scout mount shown your own creation or did you buy it some where?

It seems like I remember you making those, maybe even a couple different editions of them, but I could be wrong.
