357 Magnum 200 grn Cast Bullet

Good afternoon. Wanting to experiment with 200 grn bullet for bowling pin shooting. This is the data that I have been able to find in my library. Anyone already been down this road before? Bought a hundred 358430s from Matt's Bullets to compare my Accurate 36 200Rs. In the case seating depth seems to be very close. I figure that strating loads will be pretty similar. Thanks for looking.

Actually the 1973 data was Lyman Cast Bullet Ed #2 not Ed3. Edition 3 didn't have a 200 grn bullet. Edition 3 is also 1980 copyright. Sorry about that.

For 190/200 gr bullets in my 686 I just stick with 5 grs of unique seating them out to max cyl length .
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

Thanks for information provided. Tested four, ten round shot strings yesterday. Noticed that I definitely had case tension due to the depth of the bullet seating. I don't believe my 14-15 BNH alloy was deformed but did not actually pull and mic any bullets. I might revisit this next time. At twenty yards I had some less than square impacts on target. It appears the bullets might be yawing some. Not all rounds but seems each load exhibited some slight degree of yaw. Will post a picture of impacts later. Very interesting first results. Might consider reshooting with aluminum PB checks to see if that makes a difference to squareness of impacts.

5.5 inch RedHawk 8 shot. Chrono 15 ft from muzzle. Ten shots per load, trickeled to specifed load. Accurate 36 200R crimped at crimp groove, pmc brass trimmed at 1.280". CCI small pistol primer.

Noticed each load exhibited some non square bullet strikes

    From 2002 Winchester Powder Guide:

    200 grn Lead, 231, 5.5 grn, 1060 fps 42,500 Cup

    200 grn Lead, 296, 12.4 grn, 1335 fps 35,000 Cup

These are Maximum loads. Reduce 231 by TEN percent for start load.

In my experience don't reduce 296 by more than 3 percent.

Note 296 is considered to be one of the best powders for use in Magnum handgun cartridges. Please refer to page for recommended primer and use a very heavy crimp. Failure to follow this procedure could result in poor ignition and or squib loads under extreme circumstances, particularly in loads where less than 90 percent of the powder space is being used (low loading density)
