Good to hear from a neighbor. I’ve only been to CPRC once, but I thought the fields large enough that almost all of the shot would land on them and not the woods. Surely they have recovered lead from the fields, but if not, wow! Maybe you’re thinking of somewhere else.

I’d start by marking off an area 2’x2’ and collecting everything by hand. From there you can decide if there is enough to make a larger effort worthwhile.

Shot doesn't go as far as you think it would. Most only goes just over 200 yards.

Get it worked out and I'll volunteer for a day for a reasonable share! All accounts of melting shot for boolits indicate that it is a pain. A lesson I need to learn the hard way!

Contact Mike McNeeley, he manufactures a machine and does contract lead reclamation. In the past he has leased his machines to individuals. A lot of money to be made in reclamation.

Gold sluice will catch shot. I have friends that prospect for gold and lead shot in the box is a common complaint.

The recovery company gets paid and takes the lead, or leaves it for the club?

At 7K a day, I think I'd just leave the lead lay where it fell. Gp

A local club had a company come in to recover shot , a guy showed up did some sampling , a month or so later they came , did their thing
Hauled off nearly 60,000 lbs of shot . Left the club 15,000 lbs
Didn't cost the club a dime and they re-seeded the grass .
Two months later you couldn't tell they had been there .

A few of the members cooked up a scheme to "maximize " the profit by melting and making new shot . They bought a shot maker and I think they managed to get threw about 1500 lbs before giving it up as to much work .
Last time I had a look the rest of it was still there in 35 gallon drums

I have shot reclaimed lead shot for years. Much cheaper to shoot and breaks targets just like the new stuff. It is at least half the price of new shot.

Back in the late 1960s, I remember Dad, my Uncle, and the 2 other guys on their team, complaining about shooting reclaimed shot. It was all they could get during the Viet Nam era. They shot enough in competition that they could tell the difference between new shot and used shot. I was just a little guy.

A few years ago, a buddy got into trap and skeet shooting. He started out buying store bought ammo, and saw the value in reloading. I haven't shot shotgun in quite a while, but have loaded shells for almost 50 years, since I was a little guy. Anyway, my buddy found a guy who collects and recasts bird shot. The price was very competitive compared to new and the quality is there. I plan on going to see his operation, which he allows.

I have a shop project going for a single dripper shot maker which would more than meet my personal needs, maybe a bit more. Anymore, all the 'greenies' are trying to end lead shot for hunting, and even attacking use at ranges in certain states. It is maddening to think of but we must keep fighting. For now, I cast 32 and 69 RB, adding #6 shot would be a plus.
    Common sense Gun Safety . . .

you cant do it just because you are a member there and you better not let the board find out or anyone else for that matter. if you live close and if you are thinking of trespassing expect to be prosecuted. if you work there as one of the paid trappers thats wrong as well. those gates are locked and fields are never open to lead removal. many members have already been told it was off limits so what makes you think your special?
