Mine has the flip aperture (300-600). I want to use a ladder sight. Can I reuse the existing spring and plunger or do they have to be replaced also ?

Existing spring and plunger works. Uses same parts.
But DON'T discard the Mk2 dual-aperture sight. It is the correct rear sight for a wartime Long Branch or Savage No. 4 Mk1*

Sarco had or has windage adjustable sights( ladder type) for the #4 I believe- it might be worth a look.
those are meant for a modified #4, they require modifying a #4 to fit, and are kind of lightly constructed. It was perhaps meant for a sniper rifle m39? Some one here will know. Anything that Sarco sells needs to be examined with care.
What you want is the A.J. Parker 8/53 backsight conversion for the Mk3 battlesight. I bought mine in Canada back in the 1980s. They turn up occasionally on EvilBay and Gunbroker. Expect to pay $125-175 depending upon condition, because they are still in great demand in the British Commonwealth nations that still permit their subjects to shoot rifles.

Is that parker 8/53 able to fit on a M1914 or 1917 Enfield w/o butchering?
Or how about the windage/elevation adjustable $4 rear sight?
REason is: a couple yrs ago, I saw a M1917 Winchester made Enfield
with such a sight on it. Should have bought it....
