    IMR 3031 in Trapdoor?

I found an old note in my 45-70 files that claims 36.5 grs IMR 3031, behind a 405-gr soft-cast slug, is good in a Springfield Trapdoor, Whoever passed this info along to me was using Dacron filler.

Can anyone confirm this load with personal experience? How was your accuracy?

Do lighter loads of 3031 have any merit in these old rifles?

    Thanks.

I would find loading data that has pressure data with it also before continuing.

Based on the Lyman cast bullet handbook, that would be a mid to upper load. It should be fine if your rifle is sound.

I use 35 gr with a 3/4 gr dacron filler under the Lee 405HB. Runs 1275 fps out of my H&R OM at 25,500 psi (measured). Target shot with M1879 sight set on 100 at 100 yards.

34 grains 3031 with the Lee 405 hb. Start load in the Lyman cast bullet hand book. 1161 fps. Shoots very accurately in both my trapdoor Springfield rifles.expect the gun to shoot high.
