    38/40 Boolit for reloading

    Hi:

I have a 1st gen. Colt SA that I am looking for a good boolit for reloading that I can cast myself.

    Thanks,

Are you planning to load smokeless or black? Accurate has several traditional and modern designs for the .38-40. If loading smokeless powder you want a crimp groove.

These have adequate lube capacity for black, but also a substantial crimp groove:

This one is intended for smokeless powder applications, but has a larger meplat for hunting purposes, and is the most blunt shape which feeds in the Winchester 92.

I use the lee 401-175 TC and seat without a crimp groove. If I had to, I could seat to where the cone begins. My Ruger OM Vaquero came with 2 cylinders and the other is 40 S&W. Shoots the same boolits, same velocity, that is unless I use loads from John Taffin which perfom like a 41 mag. I already have that so no need to hot rod the 38-40 WCF

BTW, my 175s cast at 180

Arsenal has a nice 200 grain SWC 40 caliber. I use it in my 401 Powermag but it should work well in a 38-40.

Only left handed guns are interesting!
