    In October, 2015 I bought a 4 pound keg of 4759.
It was made dated 73 if I read the code correctly!
I replaced it with Alliant R7 about 2 years ago.
It was my go to powder since 95.
Can our government survive the next 4 years?

I must be the odd man out here because I bought a 12 pound keg of it a few years ago and it probably still has 11 pounds left. I haven’t really found anything it can do that I can’t do with other powders.

4759 is the Darlin' of many single shot shooters. Like Elkins45, I have not found it to do anything that I cannot do with other powders. And I've used it in a bunch of different loadings. I think I still have a pound or two on the shelf - hmmm, might sell them at the next single shot match.

It's a great powder for cast, but so is 2400 , and they still make it!

I chased accuracy around for some time when I first stepped into CB’s. SR4759 solves my problems. A B&M powder measure is the only one I trust to drop consistent with it and other stick powders.
I tried them all and consistent results on steel, paper and chrono came with 4759.

I've used 4759 for a long time like many here and stocked up when the discontinuance was announced. However, and I've mentioned this before on the semi-regular 4759 threads... we have a tremendous number of powders available today, even for cast bullet shooters. I probably won't try it until I must, but I'm confident that 4759 results (accuracy and otherwise) can be duplicated with other powders.

From my ASSRA activities, especially advice from their former president, the late Charlie Dell, I have settled on 4759 for original (mild steel) barrels in my single shots... the Green Mountain BP barrel Charlie used to re-barrel my original high wall that became a faux Schuetzen rifle has been shot almost exclusively with 4759.

Back when it was still marginally available I stumbled on an 8 lb jug of surplus powder the seller claimed was actually 4759, and I am using that now as my go-to powder in most single shot apps.

Sure wish I could get a few more pounds, but at my age, I probably won’t use up all I have.

    I've gone to 4227.
I have a small supply. I use it for already developed loads.

5744 is about as close as it's gonna get. Similar burn rate, density/ granule size.

Works great for cast bullets in the 7.62x54r cartridge. My 1935 Finn model 27 loves it. Frank

5744 is good replacement powder. So is IMR 4227. 5744 is $10 or more per pound. it is a bit bulkier than 4227.
