    Information about this oil can

My Granddaughter gave me this for Christmas. It was sold to her as an item from WWII. I'm a bit of a WWII buff but don't recognize this as anything military. However, there is a whole lot more I don't know than I do know so would like some ideas as to what this might be.

With the oval panels on both front and back it seems there may have been sort of advertisement or logo in the oval but there is no evidence of adhesive or paint.

I really don't care all that much because it is a gift she obviously spent some time and thought on, looking for something rather unique in an area of interest to me. As such it a great deal of sentimental value to me. I'm just curious since I like to know about things.

Do a search for 1917 Browning oil can. Usually see them painted green. Used with the 1917 and 1919 until replaced in WWII by the rectangular one.

Looks like one the One Eyed Fat Man uses with a Vickers.

30 cal machine gun can. As moleman said, they are usually painted Army green with the manufacture and production codes. At least the ones I have seen are.

Dan, you may recall a fine day spent at your place with nephews turning .303 Mk VII ball into a glorious noise and hot water. The oil can is similar, same spout, but the body is more squared off.

That's the USGI oiler that replaced the more oval WW1 and early WW2 oiler the OP posted. The Vickers has a brush.

That was a remarkable day for fun and comradeship. Stewart had it right when he said it was the sound of freedom.
