Snyder Carbine

Picked up this weekend a Snyder Carbine that is about 90% all over with just about a mint bore. It is an Enfield sold out of service and from what I can find out it is from Portugal. I am gathering loading supplies and the gun came with about 20 old Kynoch loads and a couple of cases the owner turned himself.

The previous owner bought the gun in the 50's for IIRR $17.00 and played with it for a while before he stored it away. I have no idea what a Snyder is worth today but I have never seen one this nice so I parted with a load of frog skins for it, I just hope it will shoot.

My friend in Italy shoots his with a .60 cal. round ball and 80 grains of 2Fg in 24-ga. shotgun cases cut off at 2 inches.
Just shove the ball down against the powder and smear 50-50 beeswax and olive oil over the ball.

I make mine using 24 gauge brass shotgun shells. Shoots wonderful. Yours will too!

In most Snyder rifles it usually ends being cheaper in the long run to use the fiocci hulls . A lot of these don't have the roundest of chambers and the brass cases don't hold up for very long before splitting .
If you can beg a couple cases before investing in New ones to check your chamber it would be helpful .

The plastic hulls are easy to come by and cheap enough , I get between 3-5 loadings with bp before they burn out .

i shoot the lyman 575 minie ball (forget the mold no. but ends up being 350 grains pure lead) over either 28 grains of IMR 4198 or 38 grains of IMR 3031. Fed 215 magnum primer and 1 and 1/2 cotton balls. been shooting the same magtech 24 gauge brass now for about 5 loadings, no signs of wear. i shoot at a mini-ipsic sized steel plate at 200 meters. if i miss, it's my fault. before you think about shooting smokeless, make sure yours is the mkIII with the steel receiver.
