Anyone shooting Win 748 with cast 308

    Evening Gents,

Anyone shooting Win 748 with cast 308? I have the MP molds Hunter mold that’s dropping 160ish and gaschecked.

Was wondering if Win 748 is even worth trying to get to 2500 FPS or so.

What is your barrel twist? Lubed or PC bullets?

My 10" twist barrel I have been able to get to 2100fps with lubed and good accuracy. With PC I have shot some at 2400fps with near MOA accuracy. Have not tried faster. If you have a slower twist you may be able to do better.

I use 748 in my 223 cast rounds and get good accuracy and around 2400 FPS. Never used 748 on 308 but depending on case volume sometimes I use Dacron filler with other powders.

    I'm a big 748 fan and its all I use for 150-ish j-words in my M1A.

I played around a little with it using the Lyman 170 RN I got for .30-30s.
I figured out pretty soon why Lyman doesn't even list 748 for cast .308s.

However; IMR 4198 and 3031 gave me very good results with the 170 RN in the M1A, .30-30, and even .30-06.
I never pumped it up over about 2,000 fps, but under that, I'm happy with 'em.

I have shot a cast of cast in the 308 both bolt and semi... i think W748 is a great powder for Jacketed

if you are looking for accuracy 2500 fps with cast and a 10 twist .. i do not think you can do it

    Shot cast with 4895 4749 unique 4227 5744 and a few others

best load was with either old imr 4227 or 4749 where I have shot 100 rounds (100yds) in a day changing targets every so often and at the end of the day,
when you stack your targets all the bullet holes... including pulled shots/ called can be covered with a coffee cup lid

A full case of W760 gives about 2500 FPS in the 308 win using a 160 gr NOE.
    A deplorable that votes!
