    Half stock rifle question

On the three rifles I've built before we're full stock and always pinned through lugs , I'm considering a halfstock this time and I've noticed most half stocks are keyed with a single or double wedge and not pins . This gun will have a regular flint breach plug not a hooked breach so I really don't see the need for the wedges for easier removal . Is there other reasons half stocks used wedges ? Strength ?

I would just go with the Cross Pins rather than the Wedges.
Like you said , you don't have a hooked breech for Quick Disassembly , so driving out a couple of pins would not be all that much work when ever you decide to do a full take down.
My Mowrey Half Stock has the forend held on by two pins.
It has never been a problem.
One wedge is about the strength of two 3/32" brass Pins
