when I built my last bench from scrounged lumber, I decided to support the press with a piece of 1/2" plate due to the brittleness of that lumber. it was dry as a bone in the mojave desert and brittle as glass. it looks good, and the support worked for what I wanted. but now i'm looking for something to cover it with so I don't damage any of my expensive swaging punches when I fumble, and I fumble a lot.

Maybe stickyback felt? Or thin clothing leather and spray adhesive. I keep my eyes peeled at thrift shops for leather skits and jackets for thin leather for projects.

6”x6” legs with a 2x6 frame and 3/4” plywood top with steel plates under the presses. No flex, wobble or problems.

Cheapo fleece blanket from WalMart and some glue should do the trick or an old sweatshirt
