A local store has a Styer Scout, straight pull rifle priced at $400.
I fondled it, worked the action, Nice.
Marveled at the huge klunky safety, umm, it's not a leaver, or a button, fixture?
But with finger in the trigger guard seems OK.
"Scout" is a loosely applied term, my understanding from Jeff Cooper, was first, easy to carry, you could wrap your hand around the rifle at it's balance point and carry it. Does not apply to this rifle.
It has a large 10 round magazine hanging there.
Can't find a price for a spare mag, but suspect by the time shipping is covered you could have bought a very serviceable Marlin rifle.
The top of the stock forend has a picatinny rail molded into it, maybe that's stable enough to mount a sight. But I have doubts. A rail can also be mounted on the receiver, for conventional sight mounting.
Despite having several fine .22s I lust for this rifle.
