    Goose hammer!

Was in Stuttgart, AR with my oldest son, brother and grandson in a pit blind and a few speckled geese made a pass at our set-up. My first shot with a 3" 20 ga. and 1 1/8 oz. of #4 bismuth @1400fps crumpled the bird and I turned to get on another. I had not opened the far side and was bumping it out of the way when BAM! I was semi-conscious for a second or two, falling back into my brother who kept me from going all the way down. I remember thinking somebody shot me-or something. What happened is the goose I hammered with that 20 ga fell straight into the left side of my face and hammered me. At days end I was swollen pretty good.

A friend did about the same but he broke his arm.

I never managed to kill one myself yet, but those speckles are some of the best eating bird there is. I miss duck season. Is it September yet?

    Yikes! Kamikaze goose!

Good thing there wasn't any worse damage. Us old guys don't bounce or heal like we used to!

On the upside the impact with your face likely tenderized the goose a bit...

Ninja goose! Never had a dead one land in the pit but had one bounce over it once. A greater Canadian. Glad you came out of it ok.

    A goose that retrieves itself.
I'd never heard of that before.

Uh-oh!! Concussion protocol may come into play here Hal, you might have to sit-out the rest of the season!

Three of us in a blind with a rolling door on the front. One of the largest canadas I have ever killed dropped on the door. Totally wrecked it, bent 1x1x1/8 angle iron sheared off several 5/16 bolts.

Have not seen bismuth mentioned for quite a while. The day we had our “crash” we were all using BlackCloud ammo. One of the most destructive loads I ever used. Never saw any shot drop off and fall in the water. It cut them up pretty bad.

Often wondered if I could go for geese with my 20 ga.
