Picked up an H&R handy gun with a rifled barrel in 44-40. Even came with a holster.

Is this a real production item or someone's conversion to a SS handgun?

It looks like a half a rifle.
It must weight about 4 lbs at least.
What are they used for and how do you shoot them.
I don’t do pistoleros but looks something better than a bank robbers special.

For some reason your posted image is not a hot link and so I can not enlarge it to read the print and admire the handguns. In this case I think the subject item is the second down on the right. For all the world - the upper right image looks like a Stevens tip-up, but again the picture and text are very small.

This was originally a smooth bore and I ended up with the frame sooooo. It is set up with an extractor and not an ejector so I don't have to chase the brass. I think it was the 1968 gun control act that made these not legal with a smooth bore, have seen a few in different caliber. The frame is the same size as the old 410 H&R shotgun ( smaller than modern frame) but the grip mount is different. The front sight is German silver and the rear is off a 1911.

John, that should be a wonderful woods walking gun. I surely love the .44-40 you did for me fitting the Numrich 1894S Marlin barrel, and the .38 S&W Lettuce Protector also gets lots of mileage walking back and forth from the wood lot!

I'm expecting someone to come out with a modern Handy Gun in .410 with pistol grip and +26" OAL. They're already doing it with pump actions.

I have one in .410 gauge and it's a hoot to shoot on station 8 on the Skeet field!

So what happened to the 1968 gun laws? Shotguns are supposed to have 18" barrels.

Have not put it on paper yet but I did shoot at a rock in my back yard, hit it on the third shot. The saw handle grip protects from the web cutting lever.

I "Think" the short barrel shotguns we are seeing are legal because someone noticed a loophole in the regulations concerning smooth bores. Someone correct me if I misunderstand but I think the situation is that as written the 18" limit is for cut down shotguns and "apparently" as it reads it really doesn't apply to newly manufactured weapons so these new smooth bores are not legally "sawed off" shotguns which the law as it was written was intended to prohibit. Of course there is a lot more to it than that but some explanation along those same lines can be seen on Mossberg's website.
