Any 1873 SAA shooters here?

Just bought a new Hilason Western cowboy rig for my soon to be here Pietta. While I like it, for the life of me I can't get the leather hammer thong to adjust higher so it will be able to slip over the hammer. Is there some trick to it? Thanks.

Soak the thong in water, wrap the gun in Saran wrap to keep it dry, holster it and stretch the thong over the hammer and leave it to dry. Otter work.

It's obviously too short and I just wanted to see that I could adjust it.

I use the plain slim jim on a cartridge belt fit a piece of shoe string leather to fit if I feel like it , most of them hold gun in quite snugly and have had no issues , but am not riding a horse , which is where the thong comes in , also pistol is up higher and is more comfortable to me when hunting.
