Catalogs are many times out of date the day you get them. I've tried to order items that were on sale from catalogs, just to find out they were sold out before the catalog made it to my mailbox. Also, I'm sure the cost of printing and mailing thousands of large catalogs has to be figured into the end cost of goods.

the cost of printing is the cost of doing business. i get catalogs from several woodworking supply companies. and companies other than woodworking. most of them come quartely or more often. no charge for any of them!!. and i get a very thick catalog from grizzly every year. sorry guys but thus is nothing more than greed. i will still buy from brownells but only when absolutly necessary. in my case brownells shot themselves in the foot.

I'm not a Brownells fan, but if you want a catalog, pay for it. while to some here it is seen as a cost of doing business, just mailing that catalog cost them $4 to 5 dollars. Add the printing, and a person to handle it, and $10 is reasonable. I got a grizzly catalog the other day. But If I buy from them, it's through the web or in person. I love catalogs, but they are dinosaurs

I just spent several hundred dollars with them last year, and they just sent me a free #72 catalog. You just can't beat the selection that Brownell's has. I prefer to browse the catalog, decide what I want, then order online. I am old fashioned, I don't like e-books, but prefer the hard copies instead. And as others have stated, I wait for the discount offers, with free shipping. Figuring that, their prices are competitive with others.
