    .351 Question

Going through a box of brass and ran into this. It is labeled .351 trimmed and ready to load. It is trimmed to 1.372 to 1.374. It is headstamped R P 357 Max. It has been shortened and looks like it has been put in a lathe and turned to semi-rimless cartridge. It is pictured with a standard 357 max R P Case. It appears to be made from new brass. If it was turned on a lathe it had to be very labor intensive. I am guessing I have 140-160. What is the name of the cartridge? Demand?

    All input appreciated

    Thanks
    Doug

    It's 351 Winchester Self Loading.
Turning down the rim and shortening 357 maximum cases is an easy conversion for the case.

    Good luck feeding it.

Right or wrong. When I was a kid I owned a 35 WSL. Could find any ammo and wanted to shot it.

I loaded some 38 special cast rounds (358 dia) and it shot great as a single shot. The 351, 451 and 35 are expensive guns to feed. You lose the brass too easy in the grass.

Check out Buffalo Arms. They sell them for $.79 per case but they're out of stock.
I make mine out of regular .357 mag brass with no ejector groove cut.

There is actually properly headstamped brass available right now. It is being made by Starline.

Apologies, yes it's Starline brass - Steve from Load X has it for sale. I'm sure he had it made up on a custom basis. But I did buy 250 from him.

My neighbor has a .401 SL, brass has always been a problem for him. He made his own out of .35 Remington cases, and BuffaloBore used to stock some. Jameson sold the cases too through Midway.

Currently Grafs sells .351 SL brass as does BuffaloBore.

Using that brass, and many other case forming tips, came from Grumpa. He was talented.

been using the star line 360 DW brass now as it is almost the right length so less trimming and lesser expensive as 357 max

No need to lose the brass if you make a hand held brass net catcher out of bent coat hangers and netting .
You can bend a handle like a slingshot handle and an offset hoop to curve around outside the gun and shape into an overhanging hood four inches above the ejection portion deflect the shell as they are fired.
I have made one that catches my 25acp thru 45 auto shells .
Made one for MI Garand and for .223.
You just have to make it ergonomically which basically means to fit the situation and the need.
You can make it hand held, attached or clamped to your forearm, your shoulder, to the gun, or even attached to your head on a helmet.
You can make a stand that will catch or hang it from the ceiling if your outdoor range has an overhang or roof.
