My 1st .45 colt hp hunting boolits

I have an MP version of the rcbs 45 270 saa with all the pins. I am wanting to work up a deer hunting load with either the penta pins or the deep hp pins. Or maybe the shallower hp pins, but i dont know what BHN to use. I will be using a stiff charge of HS6 or H110 from a .45 SBHBisley and/or a Henry BBS.

Do you have any idea what velocity you might get? 1100 fps ish? 20:1 alloy might work, 30:1 may be better.

Having shot several deer with that hollow point bullet, I use the deep hollow point bullet. The thing with a .45 Colt is, you don't need magnum velocities. I shoot a S&W 25-5, so my velocities are restricted to between 1,000 and 1,100fps, and have yet to recover a bullet from a deer. They put a big hole with an entry and exit. The important thing with hollow points is getting the alloy right. Keep your antimony content low (less than 1%) and tin content high (2.5 - 3.0%). With HS-6, it's hard to fault the Linebaugh load of 13 grains. Hope that helps.

I used a very similar to bullet in my 45 Colt for deer this season, the Mihec 270 grain rnfp. I used soww @ 30 to 1, so I had a little antimony, at 1100 fps, small hollow point. 20 yards, drt and complete pass thru. hc18flyer
