    NOE teflon coated sprue plate?

    Anyone tried this?

Up grade sprue plate to Teflon coated at time of purchasing a mould -DuPont TEFLON S 958-303 - baked on finish. Baked on at 650F. Long lasting hard coating that lets the sprue fall from your sprue plate with ease.

Sounds interesting, but if you’re doing everything right do you really need one?

I have 20% coupon, I'm very tempted. I don't need a new mould, but that never stopped me before.

For only $2.50 I would try it . After I've been casting for a while and all is good and hot , the sprues like to stick to the sprue holes edges . Have to stop and get the Q-Tip and apply lube to the sprue holes and top of plate .
Just a minor aggravation but still a disruption in production .
If the Teflon coating prevents lead sticking and holds up I'm going to try it .

I just saw the cost. If I were buying a mold, I would go for it, for only two and a half bucks more. What the heck.

Can you up grade older molds with the new sprue plate? How much for one?

Maybe if the mold cavity itself could be coated but don’t have issues with sprue plate... snake oil?

Edit: I would like Teflon covered HP pins though... maybe I will shoot them a note on that.

I’m no expert on this but as I work in a DuPont joint venture in the U.K. things catch my attention.... Isn’t there a story going around about issues with Teflon and high temperatures? Class action law claims and stuff ?...

650F doesn’t sound that high given the lead temps I often see spoken of on here...
    May we achieve our aims....

You can polish out your sprue plates to a mirror finish and that pretty well eliminates sticking.

Or just color the plate with a #2 pencil. The thin coating of graphite will eliminate sticking. I also use this method in the bullet cavities and mold block faces.
