I'm sure someone will look and say 'why is this in Casting And Reloading For Shotgun?' Bear with me.
I have a single cavity 32 caliber mold for basically buckshot, it was cheap, I figured why not. Would I miss 12 bucks? Anyway, I bought the mold and sometimes would use it as a second when casting and needed to use cadence for mold temperature control. Besides, making buck shot wasn't the primary goal.
So I ended up with more buckshot than I needed, but I didn't have any split-shot for fishing. I had toe nail clippers from back when I had doggies (had to find new homes, grand daughter allergies) and it got me thinking. Would these clippers be useful?
I tried clipping a ball, and of course it worked. There are different sized clippers for different sized doggies, I had on big enough to try buck shot. The thing I noticed was boolit alloy was pretty hard, the dead soft lead (I also cast for black powder) was perfect. I also cast for .690 round balls, these might be great for ocean fishing for bottom jigs, as I still have a house on the N CA coast. Those have been 'tapped' with an 'eye' type screw/auger.
Sinkers and fishing weights are commonly made from lead. I guess I am 'casting for fish,' in more ways than one.
