Henry H001 22 lr barrel gap

Well, I’m highly disappointed with Henry. I bought a rifle for my wife for Christmas at local sporting goods store back in November. I didn’t catch before I got it home that the barrel had 0.026” gap between it and the receiver. This also caused a gap in the fore stock.
As it looked when purchased unfortunately I didn’t catch it before purchasing.

I called Henry as soon as I noticed it and got an RMA and shipping label. Off it went to Henry. They sent it back and it still had the same gap, the letter with it stated they removed the reciever cover test fired it and replaced cover. That wasn’t the issue to begin with. This is now the week before Christmas. Didn’t figure there was enough time to get it there, fixed and back. Fired off an email to Anthony Imperato that evening stating my problem and that I would not likely be buying another Henry in the future if this is what I could expect.

    After it was “repaired”

I got an email from him the next day and a call from customer service stating they wanted to replace the rifle and offering to upgrade it to a small game hunter carbine or rifle. I stated no I just want the 22LR H001 as I had purchased and requested a quote for checkered wood. They refused to let me pay for the wood and told me it was on them.
They sent an overnite ups label and stated it would be out as soon as they received it. Well it got there Wednesday and I had heard nothing by Friday. I emailed again. They responded saying the head gunsmith was out sick. I reminded them of what was told to me as far as getting it here for my wife by Christmas.
They got it out Friday evening next business day delivery. Well I just got it back in hand. New rifle with different SN same barrel gap, wood fits very poorly. Needless to say I’m not impressed at all and have returned back to my stance that I will not purchase another in the future.
There were 3 probable purchases in the future for my 3 children still at home as well.

I have been very pleased with my 22 mag Henry but I have had it for quite a while as well

I'm sorry you're having trouble with your gift rifle. I know how disappointing that can be. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas in spite of it.

    Sincerely, Tom

It sounds like Henry did not listen to your observations and did not understand your concern. That seems to be the way of the world.

I would have the head space checked on that rifle, Depending on how they do the barrels/chambers it may be long by .026 also. Have it checked with a no go gage Not with the recess measured. The rim cut could measure right but with the gap that puts it long by .026

I agree, I spoke with Mr. Imperato via email about it again. Made an offer of replacing the rifle again and with an octagonal barrel version. I told my wife what all has gone on with it finally yesterday afternoon I left it up to her if she wanted to replace it with golden boy or blued. She has chosen to keep this rifle.

The headspace has been my concern the entire time with the barrel gap the way it is.
ETA. It headspaced correctly and the issues with wood fit were due to some wood shavings not being cleared at the front of the wrist when it was installed.

I will have to think hard in what my choice of 22 for the little ones will be when the time comes.
