    Black powder golf ball cannon

Been away for a year, retired now and hoping to have more time. Garden and fishing took most of the summer but i did have time for a neat project this fall.
Starting with a junk wheeler, i added trailing arms and a gun mount. Then bored a barrel to shoot golf balls. Casting lead makes me sick these days.
Hope you enjoy the pictures and Merry Christmas.

Barrels nothing special, 1018. Bore diameter is 1.750 and the balls are 1.690. I patch them with a patch cut from a surplus wool blanket, its a good fit.
Used the same combination in a 4 bore i built a while back and it proved quite accurate.
Think, pleasure to shoot. We aint fighting no wars with this thing. My goal is to get a 3 shot group on a piece of notebook paper at 100 yds.
2 to 400 grains of black will push them out there pretty good and ive got a couple inches of sight which becomes pretty useless after about 400 yards for me.
The big question is “has anyone ever killed a moose with a golf ball”?

Just don't shoot at any hard surfaces. Golf balls bounce back.

Does a golf ball qualify as "lead free" for CA?

Im sure they do! Glad i live in a somewhat free state!

Using bore designations this is a true “1” bore and round balls “lead” weigh one pound each. 1 pound halibut weights of this size weigh a pound also, so if i ever want to get real serious about hitting something real hard i have options.

Thanks guys, that "Talent" come from the Lord as i have no formal training other than that gleaned over 4 1/2 decades of machine work in the oil fields of Texas, North Dakota and Alaska!

Once i have some credible load / accuracy info i'll be sure and pass it along.

A guy could probably fabricate canister shot out of a tomato paste can. That would be interesting to try at least once.

I live on the 18th fairway of a public course.
Don't know how many rounds will fit in a flat rate box, but if you run short on ammo drop me a PM.

Due to the price of primers, warning shots will no longer be given!

My best friend built this one some years ago. A golf ball from it was like a laser beam it was so flat.

I’ve built a few just for noise makers. If you’re in Alaska, have you ever heard about the cannon at the Chicken Bar? That one blew a hole through a two inch solid core door with just toilet paper waddling and nothing else. Once took out a windshield too. I’ve been recently thinking about one that would shoot wine bottle corks.

I once made a "Potato gun" that could fire golf balls.
    Used propane as a fuel.
    It was a little dangerous.
Golf ball would fly to far.
Also made one that would fire tennis balls.
    Safer, but..............
    The ball would burn.
Didn't want to start a fire.
