My SKS does the job and I like it, beautiful is is NOT! A good design that pots function before form is to be respected. There are many guns that are considered beautiful that don’t do it for me, highly engraved and the godawful gold plated stuff is at the top of the list even if it is a Python. That Python, before it was dolled up is beautiful to my eyes. I am not really a Python fan but can respect the lines and attention to detail in the finish. Beauty is simply weather the appearance of said item is generally pleasing to the eye. Have shot several pretty shotguns that didn’t shoot where I was looking, useless but still “pretty”. All are owned by others now, one took a while for me to accept it just didn’t work for me. Dang, It has beautiful case colors....

Our hunting lease friend who we lovingly call "Mr. Equipment"- brought his 22-250 Dimension this weekend. Uglier in person than I imagined!!

Ugly? I consider the term in my engineering background. It is ugly if it is less efficient in the engineering.

I like the looks of black guns, AK and AR, as well as FN, G3, MP5, etc. I even like the effectiveness of a 'tacticool' lever action (the original 'assault' rifle ). FWIW, the only 'tactical' gun I own is my Garand.

Ugly to me is where there is more than needed or more mass where less expensive metals or tooling was used, like HiPoint. Or a 'black' rifle that has sights, lights and attachments all over the gun. Or execution of a function with a poor result, like some folding stocks and takedown rifles.

But, if I want a gun that can be put on display? Then it needs to have that nice blued steel and a wood stock/grip

That’s the most absurdly overstyled thing since the Edsel.

Certainly gets your attention. Could never fit the “understated elegance” category either.

I hope someone makes an aftermarket stock for it. As is it's too ugly to be seen in public.

Think the thing that makes the new elcheapo bolt rifles ugly is the way the stocks are shaped, with the blocky lines on the fore grip. If they would have regular checkering, and trigger gaurds that look normal, not like something from Star Wars they would appear much better, but what do I know.

Spot on - and a regular round knob bolt handle would not hurt either.

I suspect they are not intended to appeal to us, but some marketing idea of “target market”. Remember the Astech or some such from Pontiac a while back?? I think they came with a paper bag in the glive box for the passenger. Anyway, the design was a result of a market study, go figger

Most of the "elcheapo" rifles are sold by companies that offer more expensive rifles, and they know that if they offer a prettier budget "elcheapo" it will cut into sales of their more expensive offerings.

I think that's what happened with the Rem 788, they were really accurate and affordable, and took away sales from the 700!

You didn't have a chance to shoot it did you? That stock line looks like it would cause the barrel to rise real fast and the stock to slip downward.
