lee 90485 hp mold ( fixed pin style )

I got this mold in a box of stuff from an estate sale, rubber band paper on it just said 38/357

It looks like it is possibly a Keith type 158 gr lswc , hp, and MAY be gas check type, I need to get better eyes on it, but stub looks like it might be.

It is single cavity.. A google search on my phone has plenty of hits to related items, but nothing exact.

Looked on lee's page but could only see dual and six cavity molds, no matching numbers..

    Thanks

Lee does make a 158 gr SWC with standard lube grooves and gas check, but I don't think they make any hollow point molds, or at least I've never seen one...

I have that mold .358 158GR SWC (HP) GC 90485 1 LEE and the
    .429 240 GR SWC (HP) 90487 1 LEE

They both cast and shoot well.

Lee hasn't made their 1 cavity HP molds for some time.

I had one for 45 colt , loved the bullet it made a semi wadcutter hollow point mold, it had been used hard but I got some bullets from it before it gave up the ghost always wished they still made a hollow point in a multi cavity mold .

Thanks for the pics, beautiful work by the way.

So I'm correct in that 90485 is .358, hp, gas check , 158 gr then.. Yes?

If so, that's fantastic.. I just found my new 357 mag mold! Had been making lrn for 38's and swc for 357... Both 158. An occasional 150gr swc .. But now..

I got one off Lee's site when they were getting rid of the last. It is my 357 mold as well. Wish I had another. As my Dad used to say, "If wishes were horses beggars would ride".

    Nice looking boolits.

I have a Lee HP mold that I bought in the early '80s ( a single cav.). It does not have an item number. It's stamped 454-252-SW (possibly a lightly stamped C following the W). Your post makes me want to clean it up & cast a few. I believe Lee still catalogues it (not a HP) in a 2 cav. as 452-252 (number ?). Mine has 2 narrow lube grooves & a shallow crimp groove.

I have Lee HP mold, it's marked 90484. The box is marked 150 grs. and .358 with a plain base. It actually pours around 140 grs with ww. It works well enough, pours a nice boolit but is a little fussy and slow to use. I have had it a long time and pour a small batch occasionally.

That is an excellent GC'd HP mould for 38 SPL +p loads when cast of 40-1 alloy. It also is excellent cast of 16-1 alloy for top end (true magnum level) 357 Magnum loads. It is then very similar to a 358156 HP.

Wish I had got that one and the 44 SWC GC's one back when lee still made them. Slow to use yes but then I wouldn't be casting them for general shooting.

I bought a set of Lee molds off a big auction site when I was first thinking about casting; one of them turned out to be a HP mold in rough shape. Big fins off the plain base of the casts; I mean really bad. I took my time sanding down the top of the blocks to where they would appear to close properly, leaving a lighter finished product. Cast a few and set it aside; I keep meaning to get back to it.

Hadn't seen the GC molds previously, but that model in .38/357 looks like a winner. Nice find, both of you.

I used some 11-12 bhn material ( range scrap +tin ) on my last batch... These should be ready for full on 357 loads I think.
