Well, I hate to let this old girl go, but I need some $$ for some other projects. I've really enjoyed loading up blackpowder shells and then taking it out into the field. This is a great shooter and is in VG condition for its age (1886, I believe). It's chambered for 12 ga. 2-5/8" shells. It weighs 7 lbs 12 oz empty and the length of pull is 13-1/4" but can be increased to 13-3/4" with the slip-on buttpad (included). This gun has extractors and an automatic safety. The serial numbers on the barrels, fore end, and receiver all match. Everything looks original except maybe the trigger guard. It appears to be silver or nickel plated. If it's not original, then whoever did the replacement did a great job. The name "C. WOOD" is engraved on it just to the rear of the triggers. The checkering is worn down but can still be felt. The checkering is in good condition around the grip area but is a little dinged up on the fore end. The bore is mostly shiny with some minor corrosion and pitting at different points in the bore (sorry, I couldn't get any of the photos of the bore to come out well). However, it's structurally sound and I've taken it dove hunting on two occasions over the past 10 years and even managed to hit a few birds with it. This beauty will certainly turn some heads with its distinctive BOOM and smoke!
I'm not an expert in grading, so I'll let the pictures do the talking (see below and in the first post or two). However, one issue worth mentioning is an area of corrosion around the barrels just forward of the fore end. I bought a leather slip-on barrel guard because the barrels can get warm during a long shooting session. This leather apparently had been cured with salt or something and it corroded the exterior of the barrels when I stored the shotgun with this on it. The corrosion is only cosmetic and hasn't affected the structural integrity of the barrels. I've since shot it 50 to 75 times and didn't have any problems. I'll include the leather guard because it works well, but of course I don't recommend storing the shotgun with it on.
I'll offer the standard 3-day non-shooting inspection period with complete return privileges with no questions asked. I will refund 100% of the payment (minus the freight cost). I'd like to get $550 plus actual UPS Ground shipping cost for this gun. This is significantly less than I paid for it but I discounted the price because of the area of corrosion mentioned above. I'm not interested in any trades at this time. This can ship directly to you (where legal) as long as you provide proof of age (18+). Payment can be by USPS Money Order or PayPal (F&F or pay the 3% fee). I can ship immediately upon receipt of funds with either of these two options. If we've done business together before, I can accept a check but I'll wait for the funds to clear before shipping. I'm happy to answer questions or entertain offers but the first unconditional "I'll take it!" trumps all. Thanks for looking!
