    Remember the Prophecy

    Isa 9:1

Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—
    Isa 9:6-7

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

    It's the season for remembering!

Over and over the old testament points to the coming Messiah. When he came most refused to recognize him. He is coming again. One day every knee shall bow every tong confess that Jesus is Lord.

Those few verses do wonderful things to my tired ol' heart and busted up spine. I know of no other scripture that's as uplifting and beautiful to contemplate.

    Come quickly Lord Jesus!

The Jews rejected Him because they thought the Messiah would be associated with a specific series of events that have not yet occurred, including the return of Jews to their homeland and the rebuilding of The Temple, a Messianic Age of peace. Jews actually see Jesus as a false Messiah.

But God had a bigger plan...to save mankind.

Jesus never sat on David's throne, literally or figuratively. The prophesy has not yet been fulfilled.

David was regarded as God's ideal king because (with very few exceptions) he ruled as God intended. Jesus is a descendant of David on Mary's and Joseph's sides (Son of David). He was given authority over all the earth (which includes Israel and the Church) when he ascended and rules as God intends forever. However, Jesus' kingdom is not earthly at this moment, it is spiritual.

As far as the New Testament writers were concerned, the prophecy has been fulfilled.

That is a stretch too far.

In the literal sense, yes, and no one has said otherwise, but that ONLY means it has not yet been fulfilled; that's just the way it is with ALL unfulfilled prophecy. But, knowing the spot-on accuracy of the prophecies that have been fulfilled, I am confident that all prophecy will literally come to pass when the time is right.

Christians chewing on where David's throne is today is a spiritual dry bone; there's neither meat nor marrow to it. No Christian doctrine or life application depends on that so it doesn't matter. None of us know where it is, in fact we can't know and in some sixty years of being a moderately well read Christian I've never even heard of that question raised before. We do know that no one's life will be improved by tossing around various ideas of, "What I believe ..." about such issues. ???
