    30 caliber SWC boolits

I was at a gunshow yesterday when a guy asked me why do such boolits exist. Apparently Herter's and C-H made half jacket dies to swage them.

I suppose they would work in a rifle, though we typically think of the design as a handgun boolit.

I had not looked closely at the offerings for either company to pick-up on this so I was puzzled also.

I've never used them, but read some stuff where they were marketed for rifles like a .30-30 and M1 carbines.

The idea was- whatever a gas check could do, a 1/2 jacket could do better.

I use my .308 half-jackets for my small 30 caliber cartridges (30 Herrett, 300BLK, 7.62x39 and 30-30Win. With the half jackets, I can make from 90-150gr bullets using my Herters swage kit with a SWC and a very blunt round nose profile.

I have fired the lighter bullets out of my 7.62x25 Tokarov TT33 and the accuracy is there enough that I may explore it more next spring.

Yes, RN and RNHP are great small game boolits, but a semi-wadcutter might, maybe feed in a Win 94, for sure won't feed in a carbine. It's more of a target boolit for revolvers.
    Still searching.

They would make an excellent bullet for the .30 Carbine Ruger Blackhawk, since it doesn't matter what the bullet shape is for a revolver, as long as it can fit in the cylinder.

    Hope this helps.
