    Old Lyman Lube

I recently bought a Lyman 450, and a bunch of old Lyman Ideal lube came with it. It's black and the box is checked "Ideal Bullet Lubricant". Any idea what's in it? Wondering how it compares to the NRA BW/Alox lube I've been using all these years? Other comments?

That would be the original lube sold for the lube sizers. It was all there was available when I started casting bullets in the late 50's.It works fine.I still have one lube sizer loaded with it.I don't recall the ingredients but the main one is probably bees wax.The formula was listed in Ideal reloading manuals from the 30's.

I was told it is beeswax, sheep tallow, and lamp black.
It'll work fine for most applications, I'd probably not use it for high pressure loads.

There might be something called Colloidal Graphite in there also with the above ingredients .
The stuff is slick and black and works well in handgun applications .
I used it untill I discovered Lithi-Bee and still will use it if I run out of Lithi-Bee . I still have 3 - 4 boxes of the stuff for emergencies , I don't throw away nothing .

Thank you gentlemen for your comments. Think I'll put it to good use for .38 & .45 next time the lube-sizer runs dry.
You all have a good Thanksgiving.

I was just looking on Midway and Natchez at lubes a few days ago.
The different Lyman lubes talk of benifits, etc.,
they have one that looks like yours and talk about it is still true to their old original formulas, and what's in it.
