Cleaning trick that has helped me

I saw this ingenious trick for a cleaning "rod" on rimfirecentral and though I'd share.

First find some weedeater cord 6 inches longer than your barrel. The thicker the better.

Heat up a bolt head with a torch and press the end of the cord into the bolt head to melt it like so.

Take the other end and with some fine sandpaper sharpen it to a point.

Thread patch onto sharpened end to make a flexible bore snake.

I just add patches underneath to get the correct diameter for whatever caliber I am cleaning.

No worries about ruining your crown.

One roll of cord equals 27 lifetimes of snakes.

If the melted end breaks off just push it out with a solid rod and crank up your torch.

Nice for lever actions. One guy super glued the female end of a cleaning rod on the end of the cord and could use brushes and jags.

I have to hand it to 7.62 as that is so simple it's actually genius. No shortage of string trimmer line around this house. Frank

Drill a hole through a brass cleaning jag, or turn one up if you have a lathe. Pass the line through it then melt it. One patch will do, it will be the right size every time. Can use the same cord just change out jags. It coils up and takes almost no room. I use the orange .095" weed wacker line.

I first read about this and other cleaning tools like custom bent chamber brushes on rimfirecentral.
Dr gunner was the poster I believe.

Never got around to making a set, maybe this winter.
