that's awefully high standards for a first deer. seems like I only see a buck every 5 years

Congratulations to both of you that is a very nice buck for a first on .
Thanks all for the congrats. He is pretty happy with his buck, and he tastes good to boot.
He definitely set the bar kind of high for himself with this being his first buck. I keep telling him to just remember that we can't eat the horns.
The boy, deer and shotgun are all to be admired. Also, well done to Dad for making it all happen.
Buckshot , or slug?? What gauge ?
I can't tell if that's a Wingmaster or a Brushmaster but I'm pretty sure it's an 870. 12 gauge slugs will do.

That's a terrific story and off the ground with a shotgun! Virtual Handshakes with both of you. Great job Daddy!

Hey Modified5,
Both you and your 12-year-old did fine. Pat the kid on the back for me for taking a truly great first deer. And take a bow yourself for showing him the way.
You've just made your son a hunter for life, although as forum member "Trails4u" has implied, he'll likely be out in the fields for a long time before he tops that beautiful Mulie buck.
Enjoy the venison steaks this winter. And -- for years to come -- enjoy the memories that buck-on-the-wall will bring to you and your son.
Happy trails, and thanks for the photo of a boy's glowing smile framed by a mighty nice rack,

Real nice deer!
When I think back on all the **** I learned in high school it's a wonder I can think at all ! And then my lack of education hasn't hurt me none I can read the writing on the wall.
Congratulations, hope it's the first of many.

Nice deer! I miss my wing master with a 30 inch barrel it was my duck and turkey machine till I traded in for a 10 gauge browning gold. I won a Beretta silver mallard 390 years ago and boy it sure changed my outcome on semi automatics. I have killed over eight dozen coyotes with it and a half a dozen bobcat and a few kit fox in AZ. I picked up a brand new in the box 1986 or 87 Pintail for $300 a few years back. It was made in the same plant and the exact same parts as the Benellis. I sure get a lot more recoil with it than my 390 being an inertia gun but it is light as a feather.
So my big head scratcher is why are you using slugs in Vegas?

Cool! Definitely more of a challenge when you can only shoot at shotgun range.
Congrats to the new young hunter!
