afternoon yall.
I read and researched a little about using 450 marlin dies for the 458 x 2 American cartridge.....does anyone do this with success??

It would work just fine. I loaded my .450 ammo with 45-70 dies but my rifle was a P14 Enfield so no crimp was needed.

I use my .458 Win Mag dies but the .450 will work fine too.
I use .458 Win Mag as well. Those sets are usually pretty cheap. I bought an extra set and ground a bit on the seater die until in crimped my x2 cases. Have .450 Marlin dies as well but never tried them (had the x2 before the Marlin came out).
I had a 458 American built on a 600Rem that had been a 6.5 or 350mg. I loaded them with 45/70 dies, no crimp
I didn't know history of gun but it didn't shoot well enough to keep. The only other one I know a local has built on Argintine 98 with Douglas barrel and he broke down and bought dies. I don't see why you couldn't use 45/70 dies on 450Marlin.
