New to me JES Rebore Marlin 336-38/55, got a few questions.

I recently traded into a Marlin 335, JES Rebore to 38/55. Nice looking and great looking bore. I miked it with a set of calipers, and get a bore size of .355, groove to groove and .366 land to land, does that sound about right? The guy had gotten some reloads from another friend of mine, who used the longer version of the brass, and it closes hard the last little bit, I worked a loaded round, in and out with some effort, and saw abrasion on the brass behind the bullet, obviously this is chambered for the shorter length brass. I only got around 20 rounds of brass, that was loaded. What is the best bullet weight to shoot, 245 to 255grs? The rifle has Williams peep sights, and shot great, 3 shot group at 100 was around 2.3 inches. It had more zing than what I expected. I will get the load data tomorrow from my buddy. And what is JES's web address, ph#.All replies appreciated.

His Tel# in on the website, but he's usually too busy to answer the phone, as he gets a LOT of tire-kickers.

Calipers won't be all that accurate for the id measurement. My JES slugs at .3755. I load the Starline 2.082 length brass with Accurate mold 375-250B sized .377. Shoots great.

I just had my Winchester 94 re bore by JES (38-55) Using the shorter Starline brass a hard cast .376 250grn bullet and starting load of 22grns of 5744. Showing great promise so far. Mild load in my rifle, which just happens to be the Canadian Centennial model 26" octagon barrel.

I use the Lee bullet sized to .377” and 22 grs of IMR 4198 in my JES Win.94 38-55. I love it.

Thomas I called Jess, and he said it was the short chamber, and agreed spot on with your .377 slug . I ordered dies, mould,100 brass, and a lyman sizer.

Marlin 336CB in 38/55 with MVA buffalo tang site.
Using a Lyman 250 bullet I got hits to 917 yards.
    Long live the 38/55.
My current smokeless load is 16.0 grains of 2400 behind a Accurate 275S mold with bullets weighing 278 grains.
    I use Starline long cases(2.125”).
The Marlin 336CB in 38/55 is a fun rifle to shoot!

that's peculiar. I use 2.125 brass and they slide right in. I have a W 94 JES rebore.

    I use 21.5 grains 4198 under a 255 lead slug.

Jess bored and chambered a H&R Handi-Rifle 30-30 barrel I have into a short chamber 38-55. My available molds are Lyman 375248 (255 gr. plain base) and Lyman 375296 (265 gr. gas check). After all testing was finished this barrel showed that it very much prefers the plain base design rather than the slightly heavier gas check design. This was the same answer for all powder choices and pressure levels. YMMV.
