I thought it was either that round disk that a bull eats off of, or a great big 12 inch ribeye with lots of tastey stuff piled on top.

But I have seen lots of talk about a mold lube that rancher1913 spoke of on this site.

Bull Plate was a high temperature mold lube that prevented galling with aluminum molds using a steel sprue plate. It also prevented lead smearing under the sprue plate of a Iron mold. It was marketed by one of our members here but stopped by an anonymous complaint that it did not have the proper OSHA labeling. Rumor has it that it was repackaged synthetic 2-cycle motor oil. By the way, it worked great! (I bought a lifetime supply) So does Castrol 2-cycle synthetic motor oil.

..............Bull plate sprueplate lube originated here on Cast Boolits many years ago and originally sold by the Congiolosi family. They were Vendor Sponsors. There was a LOT conjecture among the clan as to WHAT specifically it was. I bought it from them as it was cheap and helped them out. NOE bullet moulds sells a version or similar product.

I think consensus popularly settled on 2 stroke synthetic oil for mixing with gas. Just do a computer search for Bull PLate bullet mold lube.

I never knew if it was mixed in chainsaw gas, or was the lube for the bar/chain. Works great. Like the old Brylcreem ad, "A little dab will do ya".
Wish I had bought more when I had the chance. I am down to five bottles.

I bought two of his bottles years ago on the suggestion here when I started to learn casting. Spilt one bottle and lost 1/3 of it. With that, I am still on that first bottle. If ever run out, I’ll try the synthetic 2cycle oil.

A little goes a long way. I give the bottle a light shake and just swab the inner lid with a qtip. That’s enough for me to lube a sprue plate bottom, pivots, and pin shafts.

I couldn't find Bull Plate on Gunbroker. I use an oil dampened rag, with synthetic motor oil---a quick wipe on the mold blocks and bottom of the sprue plate works, but you have to reapply after so many casts. I now use a water dampened sponge...when the sprue hardens, turn the bullet mold over and press to the sponge for about two seconds. Lead smear is eliminated. You will find this will work for X no. of casts then you have to do it again. I average about 5 casts, depending on how heavy the bullets weigh.

I use 2 stroke oil. Have for 30yrs. A piece of advice from the Old Gentleman My Dad bought 3 2cav Lee molds from at a small Gun Show more then 30yrs ago.
It was My 1st experience with aluminum molds.
It was Real Good Advice. That and handle the molds with care. Guess that's why All 3 molds have given me more 10,000 bullets apiece. And still cast great bullets.
