    Thin or thick powder coating?

    Greetings everybody !
I am casting lead bullets and powder-coating them using the electrostatic method with polyester based powder paint. I have quite some experience casting and coating and I can control the thickness of the coat. My question to you fellow casters is - how thick should the optimal coating be - 0.001, 0.002 or 0.003 ? I don't have lead built up in the barrel regardless if I make the coating 0.00075 or 0.003. Is there something I am missing about the thickness of the coat? Most of the time I am using 2/6/92 alloy (hardball), I am shooting with Tanfoglio Stock 2, 9x19, the powder is N320.

Doesn't need to be that thick. About .001 to .002 is more than adequate.

Your gun barrel will tell you what dia. Bullet it likes, mine likes as dropped and .001 pc. That’s in 9mmX 19, that ends up .001-.002 larger than bore. I lucked out and haven’t had the pleasure of sizing and lubing. Been told by someone on here that best way to size a cast boolit is thru the barrel. Boolit fit is king.

Wow just watched that video, that’s a lot of boolits. I’m very impressed, how many on each tray?

600 on each tray, 2400 total in the oven.

    Completely agree.

Moderna, I think a lot of us here are very envious of your setup... I know I am! Very nice.

Impressive set up. Should change your handle to BulletMachine. .001 to .002 is plenty.

Unless trying to purposely increase bullet thickness I try for as thin as possible. For rifle bullets I usually knock as much excess PC off the bullet so the nose doesn’t get too thick.
