    1" cannon ball mould questions

    Hi

I am looking at a mould from https://www.ballmoulds.com/

What sort of shrinkage am I looking at when casting with pure lead and wheel weights?

To achieve a 1.006" ball what size mould would be ideal?

You might consider using zinc for your cannon. Balls will weigh about what an iron ball would and it won't beat your barrel like iron. Also people collecting WW s need a place to dispose of the zinc.

Where do I find useful info on casting with zinc?

Contact the seller about shrinkage. They should have a pretty good idea and it might be a little different with the big balls than with normal sized bullets.
I've seen charts or formula for different alloys but can't recall where.

Have done so..... for WW multiply by 1.005 and for lead multiply by 1.007

Now I need to find out the shrinkage for zinc.

IS there a legal size restriction for cannon bores of .650 or something along that line?
