Lubesizers - Saeco, Lyman or Both?

I just recently picked up two lube sizers in one buy - a Saeco and a Lyman 450.
Is it worth keeping the Saeco to use considering the higher cost of the dies or should I sell the Saeco and use the proceeds to outfit the Lyman?
    Maybe vice-versa?

    I say keep ‘em both.
I have found having more than one lubrisizer wonderfully convenient. Over the years I’ve run across some deals so now I haveI two 450’s, two 45’s, and a Pitzer. They’re set up for different sizes, and lubes so I just grab the one I need and start sizing.

    Keep 'em both.
It's handy to have two set up for different sizes instead of switching dies so often.

I was given an old nasty lyman #45 [cleaned up nice] recently that I only use to resize bullets for other projects but have a pair of #450’s that I lube/resize on. One’s set up for .451 and the other .311. I redid the heater so it would heat both sizers. I like lyman equipment.

I failed to notice that there is a section for casting equipment so if the moderator wants to move my thread over there that would be good.

I bought them both along with some lube and an MEC shotshell reloader set up for 16ga.
All for $60 which I’m pretty stoked about!
The 450 has a .401” die installed and the Saeco has a .358” die.
I see my 450 has a different handle than most 450s. Is this just one variant?

Keep both. I like a multiple luber setup instead of changing dies/lubes. I have 7 Lymans and 5 Stars.

Two definently would be advantage, stup one hard lube for rifle work and one soft lube for pistols.

With your 2 choices I'd def. get the STAR.

Your 450 has the 4500 handle upgrade.

Great score! Don't stop now. Next one could be a Star.

Now I know why so many of you have a few lube sizers!
Cleaned the 450 out. What a chore!!
I can easily see that once you commit to one lube you may never want to change out for another.

Now it’s ready to be a dedicated black powder lubing machine.

I’m going to put the Super Moly on the Pay it Forward thread.
No way I will ever use that lube.

Next time you switch lubes, make a basin out of aluminum foil and use it to line a 13x9 baking pan. Lay the 450 on its side in that (minus the plastic/foam handle cushion) and set the oven to about 180 degrees. See if the lube runs out. If its high temp lube you might have to go to 220 degrees or so. Anyway, that's the easiest way I've found to switch lubes.

The Super Moly is a good lube, but it is super messy and it's difficult to clean up.

    Smile

I was in the same boat as you a couple years ago; I would also recommend selling both and getting a star lube sizer. I had been using an RCBS which I liked and I could not really understand all the praise about the star until I first used mine. The Star literally makes me smile when I use it.

I bought a 450 at a thrift store and one of the old #1 Ideal sizers at a gun show, then inherited another 450 (with 4500 handle upgrade) when my Dad passed away. I’m currently involved in a convoluted trade that should result in me owning a classic Star sizing press. I guess you could say I’m definitely in the “different presses for different bullets” camp. I guess I should mention I also use unsized bullets for scheutzen, so I have several classic style lube pumps that are fitted for specific bullets and just lube them.

The only disadvantage to all of this is the lack of uniformity of parts. If I stick to my plan to leave each (or at least most) of them set up dedicated for individual bullets or calibers, that becomes insignificant, doesn’t it?

    Froggie

PS I didn’t mention tumble lube or pan lube accompanied by dies like the Lee or some of the custom ones to use with a reloading press. The possibilities are nearly endless, so the OP should see there is no easy answer to his question... my advice is to use what suits your needs and desires.

You did really well on that deal. Keep them both.

I have a 4500 and a 45 that I use for sizing. The 45 I got off this site and rebuilt it with new springs and I turned a wood handle on my lathe for it. It also got cleaned up really well. I use it exclusively for .358 bullets for .38/.357.

I use the 4500 for all the other calibers I load for.

Ultimately, I plan on using lube only for black powder cartridge and will likely PC my boolits for smokeless use.
Therefore, the Saeco may just sit unused or sold of course.
