    Muzzloading Armoury

The other day I was given a 50 caliber muzzleloader. It's branded "muzzleloading armoury" The Plainsman. Until now, I didn't know there was such an animal. The gun is like new and from 1987. Anybody else still shooting one of these?

    Hello BPJones,

I Googled it and found a picture of what looked like a CVA Frontier rifle.
    28" x 15/16" barrel with 1:66 twist. Sound right?

Yes, it does look like the CVA Frontier and this Plainsman does have a 28" barrel x15/16". I haven't checked the twist rate yet. I've included a pic of it. I think the rifle was maybe shot a few rounds to test function when new and then put away.

    Hello BPJones,

It has the Hunting sights, where the CVA Frontier had a more primitive setup.
Back in the day I had a Frontier and a TC Hawken, the CVA shot round balls
much better than the Hawken. So much that I would use it over the Hawken
at competitive shoots. It was 1:66 twist, one I wish I never would have parted with.
Only complaint about them was not enough drop in the stock.
